As I’ve mentioned, I bought the Olympus 50mm f/2.0 macro lens for my kit a few weeks back. I’m discovering it’s a fantastic piece of glass when you want to draw a viewer’s attention to part of the frame — it gives you a very shallow depth of field (DOF) when it’s wide open, particularly up close. It also gives you really nice bokeh:
I took this picture a few weeks ago, when the crabapple trees were blooming. I hardly did anything to the image after I took it — just cleaned up the contrast a tiny bit. In retrospect I wish I’d had some white cardboard along to help bounce light onto the blossoms, but I still think it turned out well overall.
