Hopefully you’re not getting sick of Rocky Mountain National Park shots yet, because here comes another one:
Plein air painting (from the French expression en plein air ) refers to painting in the open air (vs. painting in a studio from memory and photographs). Here an artist is painting Hallett Peak from the north shore of Bear Lake. A still morning is giving her some nice reflections of the peak to work with.
You have to look closely to notice some reflections near the painter’s feet — look at the base of her box easel, and at the bench. It had been raining on and off for days when we passed through, so she’s basically sitting in a puddle as she works.
Now that’s dedication.
