One of the fun things about digital cameras is that they make experimentation so much easier. Like, for instance, experiments with shallow depth of field:
When I first took this image (at The Arboretum at Flagstaff; Flagstaff, Arizona), I was just aiming for an interesting image contrasting the foreground pair of flowers with the background pair (each with one closed / pink flower and one open / white one). By setting the depth of field to be shallow, I just wanted to have the foreground pair in focus and the background pair out of focus.
I hadn’t foreseen that the grass in the image would turn out looking like something in a kid’s finger-painting. But I’ll take it!

Well done with the shallow depth! Brings these two flowers even more to the front!

Great shallow dof! The daisy really stands up off the page!
