A local strolls along the lakeshore, hoping for a quick snack…
I shot this picture a few months back, and it’s basically been lingering on my hard drive ever since. Now that wintery weather is here, I thought a nice summer image like this would be warming.
Anyway, my flickr friends tell me this is a Black-crowned Night Heron, the most widely-distributed heron in the world. I was surprised at how close this guy let “the pup” and I get to it — rather than walking directly at it, we walked roughly parallel to its path, and were within about 15 feet of it when I took this shot.
