So I recently ran across a fun group on Flickr — it’s called Make It Interesting. The idea is that someone contributes an image for others to edit as they see fit, with the edited versions becoming entries in a contest to see which version people like the best. Win one of the contests, and you win bragging rights, as well as becoming the next person to contribute an image (for the next contest). Here’s my entry in one of the current contests:
The original image came from the little girl’s grandmother — I was struck by how intently Darcie is focusing on where she’s stepping, so the theme came to mind pretty quickly. Add a suitable background (a shot taken by the Apollo 17 crew in 1972), a plausible-looking shadow, some interesting texture layers, and it’s done!
FWIW, I did all this work in Photoshop Elements — but I suspect you could do the same with about any software that uses layers (Gimp, etc.).

Wow great job as my first thought was it looked like she was on the moon.

What I really like is how your mind worked, in even thinking up the pairing of the girl and Space. Now that’s creativity. Yep, I instantly assumed that it was an exhibition pieces somewhere. Brilliant work, that makes me feel quite lacking creatively speaking, by comnparison ha ha

Thanks to you both! Honestly, I’m just a space buff — when I thought of making Darcie’s picture “more interesting” I went off-Earth as a matter of habit!
