This past weekend, we headed up to the mountains to check out the snow sculptures in Breckenridge (the event’s officially called the “Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Championships). This is part of a sad scene left by the premature collapse of one of the sculptures:
What you’re looking at is a figure of Eve from a garden of Eden sculpture called “Ripe for the Picking.” Sadly, the team’s artistic skills weren’t matched with engineering acumen — we dropped by a few hours after the time for carving was done, and the judging just beginning. As you can see, the sculpture didn’t last long (with cool weather, a solid sculpture will normally last at least a week).
Adam, obviously, didn’t fare much better. This final picture shows the wreckage contrasted with a small scale model of the sculpture as designed:
I’ll be posting more Breckenridge shots over the next week or two. They’re surprisingly tough to post-process, we went on a cloudy day and the lighting was so flat that I had to really stretch the contrast in these shots for any of the shapes to be visible. I might just have to try converting them to black & white to see if that improves things at all…
