Branding: a restoration story

I’ve been scanning some old family slides, just to get them into the digital realm before they completely fall apart.  I thought the process I went through to rescue these slides may be of interest to somebody else facing a similar situation…

Things are looking rosy

Before my wife tossed out her (now-)wilting Valentine’s Day flowers, I thought I’d do a bit of macro work with them…

In the gates

Getting ready for steer wrestling at the stock show:

This isn’t an action shot in the least, but I like how all the cowboys are interacting. They’re all looking at the lead rider, who seems to be telling them something…
For me, this interaction *barely* overcomes the visual distraction of the yellow railings. Just barely.

Black & white & curious all over…

You might recall this “model” from a previous image…

Foucault’s ceiling

Another shot from the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles; this one is the ceiling over the observatory’s Foucault pendulum…

East Terrace

Another shot of L.A. at night, from the East Observation Terrace of the Griffith Observatory…

On patrol

A bengal tiger at the Los Angeles Zoo:

When I was at the zoo, the attendants had just set out food for the tigers — but only the adult male was in their outdoor area, his kids were nowhere to be seen. Instead of eating the food, he would sniff at it from time [...]

Climber

A Zebra Longwing (Heliconius charitonius) butterfly…

Venus over the dome

Another L.A. shot, also from the Griffith Observatory — I primarily wanted to capture the darkening sky, but also some of the people looking out from the East Observation Terrace…

Gerenuk

Another shot from the L.A. Zoo, this time of a Gerenuk…
