And it’s shaping up to be a very long season…
While the economy is suffering, a fair amount of development still seems to be moving ahead, at least locally (metro Denver). Sadly, one of the casualties of this development is one of our favorite summer family hang-outs — the Cinderella Twin drive-in theater. She was the last drive-in in the area, and was a welcome relief from inflated movie ticket prices. You could load up the car with your family (and in our case, some friends too), head on down to the drive-in, and have a fun family night out on a $20 bill.
But time marches on, and the family that owned the drive-in just couldn’t afford to keep it running in the face of escalating land values (and thus, property taxes). So like many drive-ins around the U.S., the Cinderella Twin fell to the wrecking ball, and will soon be home to a cluster of apartment buildings — they’re under construction now. I don’t know how long the sign will last, but in the meantime, it’s a reminder of a rapidly fading bit of Americana.
