One of the nice things about living in the Rockies is sometimes you’ll just be driving along, minding your own business — when suddenly you just have to jump out of your car and grab a quick picture. I took this shot exactly that way:
We were driving back to some friends’ place after wandering around in Hovenweep when my wife started saying “stop… stop… stop…” I pulled over on the side of the highway, grabbed my gear, and managed to get this shot of Shiprock about 25 miles away (Oly 50-200mm lens with 2x extender). I cloned out a power line tower, but the coloration’s all natural — this was the first dry day after two rainy ones, so the blue tone of the distant geology comes from 25 miles of (relatively) humid air.
