Since the site rework seems to have gone off without too much pain, I thought I should celebrate by posting another picture. This one’s of a replica of the ship Hector — in Pictou, NS, Canada:
For our Summer trip to the Canadian maritimes, my wife had hammered out our itinerary months in advance. Pictou was one of the stops on our route, primarily because it’s got a maritime museum (we’ve got some history with ‘em, what can I say…). But as luck would have it, the morning after we arrived in Pictou was one of the stillest times in months — and so the folks at the museum (officially, the Hector Heritage Quay) took the opportunity to turn around their replica of the ship Hector (this keeps the growth of marine organisms even on both sides of the ship).
We were about halfway through the museum when it was announced that the ship was being turned, so I ran outside to get what shots I could of the process. It didn’t take me long to realize that there were some stairs (doubling as a fire escape) running up the side of the building, right along the wharf. I took this picture from about 30 feet up, near the top of the stairs. The amazingly still air gives the shot some fantastic reflections in the water (IMHO)…

That is a fine looking ship. It is good to have the person in the shot to give a sense of size.

Thanks, Michael & Arjan! Actually, I like the painting idea — I’ll have to tinker with it a bit in PS….
