I haven’t really played much with zooming a lens in the middle of taking an image — but since I was taking long-duration tripod shots on my recent night excursion to the Denver Zoo, thought it was a good time to start. Here’s my first go at this (nearly SOOC, just a little noise filtering done in PP):

I definitely like the zoomed version better, but still think this is one of those tricks that you can only use occasionally…

I did some ‘zooming’ at house lights near the lake shore with the reflections. Worked beautifully like yours but I agree it is a technique that needs to be limited.
