So I’ve been doing a little tinkering around with my new toys, the Olympus 50mm macro lens and extension tube. So long as you’re careful about some things, it’s a powerful combo. Here’s a macro image I took recently using this combination…

Palazzo Vecchio at night
This is a panorama of images I took some months back, but didn’t really get hammered into shape until recently. It’s the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Italy — and the images were taken just after a day-long drizzling rain started to let up…
Macro vs. Macro
So I’ve managed over the past few months to gather up a mangy collection of hardware for my E-510, the purpose of (some of) it being to enable me to make macros. I thought it was about time to pull together some sort of side-by-side comparison of how it all performs….
Oly 50mm macro — now that’s good bokeh!
As I’ve mentioned, I bought the Olympus 50mm f/2.0 macro lens for my kit a few weeks back. I’m discovering it’s a fantastic piece of glass when you want to draw a viewer’s attention to part of the frame — it gives you a very shallow depth of field (DOF) when it’s wide open, particularly up close. It also gives you really nice bokeh…
New toys…
As you may have noticed if you’ve looked at the EXIF data in some of my images, I bought some new goodies for the E-510 to play with…
Diffusers — to DIY, or not to DIY…

Firepower
If you’ve been reading my posts for very long, you might recall that I’ve been tinkering around with a setup for doing macro and closeup photography at home. I started out by buying a 20″ light tent, but found that the lights it came with were pretty anemic. So I augmented the tent with another [...]
Pinhead, redux
OK, I finally figured out my pinhole photography issues (as I suspected, the hole needed to be smaller). Here’s my contribution to Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day:
Pinhead
So this was news to me — a week from today (i.e., the 27th of April, 2008) is “Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day.” The idea is to encourage people to take a break from our increasingly technological world, and spend a bit of time taking pictures with a pinhole camera. If all sorts of technically non-adept folks can do this, I figured I’d give it a try as well…
Ladybug — before and after
I’m working hard to do better at my macro photography, but obviously have a ways to go. Here’s a shot I took near La Jolla, California a few weeks back…
