…are what make life worth living.
Another quick macro shot, this time from St. Elmo, Colorado:
These flowers are each about 1/4″ in diameter — small enough that I almost stepped on one while we were walking back to our 4×4. I took the picture, at least in part, to remind myself to watch where [...]

A bumblebee works its way through some slender mountain mint:
I took this picture in a park in St. Louis, Missouri. It has a slight case of “green overdose,” but I like the bokeh and am particularly happy at how crisp the bee looks.

So I’ve managed over the past few months to gather up a mangy collection of hardware for my E-510, the purpose of (some of) it being to enable me to make macros. I thought it was about time to pull together some sort of side-by-side comparison of how it all performs….

I’m discovering it’s a fantastic piece of glass when you want to draw a viewer’s attention to part of the frame — it gives you a very shallow depth of field (DOF) when it’s wide open, particularly up close. It also gives you really nice bokeh…

So I decided I should try my hand at macro photography. This means, of course, I need a better / more even lighting setup than I currently have (overhead lights & natural light coming in the window by the dining room table). I bought myself a light tent — or, to use its commercial name, a Sunpak eBox studio. I now will subject you to a quick review of how well it works for me (so far)…
